Ugly Christmas Sweater for a Wine Bottle

Ho Ho How, in the name of all things holy, do you carry wine to an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party?

In a tiny Ugly Christmas Sweater for a Wine Bottle! Duh : )

I haven't been invited to an Ugly Christmas sweater party. Yet. And seeing that I have a thousand things I should be doing to prepare for the holidays, I've decided to make an Ugly Christmas sweater for my wine bottle. Just in case.

Supplies:

one odd Christmas sock

liquid seam sealant

embroidery floss

ribbon & trim

wine bottle

scissors

needle

wine

How To:

1) Stretch sock over wine bottle mannequin, working from the bottom. If your sock has a design, this will make it right side up.

2) Apply No Fray liquid around the sock at the length you want your sweater to be, plus 1/4 inch. I’m cutting mine below the white point. Let the No Fray dry while still on the bottle. If you remove it, the stitches will scrunch back together and might not allow enough give for the sweater to fit back around the bottle. Inpatient crafters, a hairdryer works.

3) Remove the dry sock from bottle. Cut along your No Fray line. That’s the body of your sweater.

4) Make a trapezoid template 4 inches long by 3 inches on one end and 1-1/2 inch opposite end. Trace around the template (on the foot of the sock) with No Fray to make two sleeves. Cut when dry.

5) Sew any embellishment around the bottom edge of the sweater you like. I used green ribbon and some shiny red and black trim while the sweater was on the bottle so I wouldn’t attach it too tight to fit back on the bottle. I’d recommend embellishing the sleeves now, before you stitch them together. Then. Right sides together, stitch sleeves’ long rough edges together.

6) With body on the bottle, pin sleeves where they look best. Stitch the sleeves onto the body of the sweater. I’m not gonna lie, this is the tricky part. Stick with it though!
